Graveside services were held at the Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa, Washington, for Helen A. Weis, 95, St. Maries, who died January 30, 2004.
She was born in Spokane June 22, 1909, to Carl and Emma Johnson, who homesteaded in the Tensed area. She attended the Fir Grove Country School in Tensed.
In 1933, she married Arthur Kutch in St. Maries, and the couple made their home in Sanders, where they farmed. He died in 1959.
Helen was a homemaker most of her life, and was an active 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher at the Tensed Community Church, and she was the Tensed news correspondent for the St. Maries Gazette Record for many years.
In 1967, she married Albert Weis in Bonners Ferry, and the following year they moved to Cashmere, Washington, to work in the orchards. In 1971, they moved to Spokane, where Albert worked in maintenance at the Crescent. They returned to the area in 1986, moving to the Tekoa Retirement Apartments.
Albert preceded her in death in 1999, and Helen moved to Valley Vista Cottage Care in St. Maries.
She is survived by son Ronald Kutch, Melissa, Texas; daughters Becky Brede, St. Maries, Phyllis Heter, Lewiston, and Marie Knerr, Plains, Montana; brother Stanley Johnson, Spokane; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
