Family graveside services were held in Coeur d'Alene for Verdie M. Burrell, 92, Kellogg, who died February 28, 2004.
Verdie was born in East Greenacres, Washington, April 23, 1911, the daughter of Louis and Selma Otterson. She attended schools in Post Falls, graduating from Post Falls High School, and attended Northwest Business College in Spokane.
In 1929, she came to Kellogg with the intention of working for a year and moving on. But after meeting and marrying Carl Sturts, she ended up spending the rest of her life in Kellogg.
She was a bookkeeper at her brothers' Hudson automobile business, and after raising her family, she worked at Weber Bank in Wardner and at Enterprise Laundry. She worked for a brief time at the Bunker Hill zinc plant before accepting a position at West Shoshone Hospital.
She continued to work at the hospital after she was widowed, and later married Ralph Burrell. She remained at West Shoshone Hospital until her retirement.
She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and served as secretary for many years.
She is survived by her two children, Keith and Diante, and two grandchildren.
