Unidentified animal remains found in ditch near Priest River

On April 6, deputies responded to the area of Albeni Falls Dam, near Oldtown, ID, in reference to an animal cruelty report. The remains of five animals were found in a ditch off an access road near the Albeni Falls Dam.

At this time, the species of the animals cannot be identified. Samples of tissue were taken from the remains and have been sent to the National Fish and Wildlife Forensic Lab in Ashland, OR. This lab will conduct a molecular forensic examination to determine the animal species.

It appears that the remains of these animals have been in the ditch for an extended period of time. At this time, the cause of death of these animals has not been determined. The Bonner County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this case. Anyone with information pertaining to this case is encouraged to call the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office.
