Auditions for Ballet Idaho's Holiday Classic "The Nutcracker"

Panida Theater October 15, 2006 1 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Pend Oreille Arts Council and Sandpoint Title Insurance are bringing back the holiday classic Ballet Idaho’s The Nutcracker to the Panida Theater in Sandpoint, ID for one performance only, Tuesday, November 28, 2006. Auditions for local ballet students to participate in The Nutcracker will be this Sunday, October 15, from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Danceworks Studio.

The studio is located north of Sandpoint on Highway 200, adjacent to All Seasons Garden & Floral. Peter Pawlyshyn, Ballet Master from Ballet Idaho will direct the audition and select the children for various roles in the production. Debi Terracciano and Barbara Russell, local dance instructors, will teach choreography at that time and they will rehearse ballet students weekly until the performance in November.

Students are asked to arrive at least 20 minutes prior to audition times to fill out registration forms. There will be a $5 audition fee collected at the auditions, payable to “Eugene Ballet”. Preparation of a dance routine is not necessary for auditions. Students ages 6-18 are welcome, and at least one year of ballet is required for all roles except Baby Mice (ages 6-8). Students may audition for the following roles: Baby Mice, Angels, Ladybugs, Party Children or Soldiers. Only advanced female students may audition for Waltz of the Flowers.

Ballet Idaho requests that girls should wear class uniform or a solid colored leotard, pink tights and pink ballet shoes, and hair should be covered in a bun. Boys should wear a white t-shirt, black tights and black ballet shoes. All students audition in flat technique shoes except Waltz of the Flowers, who audition on pointe. Students must be available for all rehearsals and performances. Students are only excused due to medical illness or emergency.

Tickets for the performance are currently on sale at the Pend Oreille Arts Council office, located in the Power House, or call 208-263-6139. Ticket prices are $18 for POAC members, $22 for non-member Adults, and $9 for students 18 & under, including sales tax.
