Sweet N Sour Venison

      Recipe Columnist

I have had to really get creative with my dinner ideas lately, and I am cooking with a lot of venison these days so here is a twist on sweet and sour chicken!

SWEET AND SOUR VENISON

Ingredients:
2 pounds deer or elk round steak or stew meat
1 cup cornstarch
Salt to taste
Garlic salt to taste
2 eggs beaten

For the sauce:

1 ½ cup sugar
½ cup water
½ cup ketchup
1 tsp. salt
4 tsp. Soy sauce
½ cup pineapple juice
Pineapple chunks
½ cup vinegar
1 medium onion cut in chunks
1 green pepper cut in chunks

Directions:

Cut steak in 1 inch cubes or thin slices and dredge in egg and then coat with a mixture of salt, garlic salt and corn starch. Fry meat cubes on all sides in hot oil until meat is cooked and browned.
On stove top combine sauce ingredients. Cook until everything is dissolved and warm (I usually thicken the sauce with some of the leftover cornstarch at this point, it is up to your personal preference though). Pour over meat mixture and keep warm until ready to serve. Serve with hot cooked noodles or rice.
