Wallace Gears Up For Lead Creek Derby Days

The 66th Annual Gyro Lead Creek Derby will be held June 14, 15, and 16.
A beach ball will be dropped into the south fork of the Coeur d'Alene River at noon on Saturday from the "Last Chance" bridge above Mullan to kick off the event.
Tickets will be sold by the Wallace Gyros for $1 for a chance at guessing the closest time for the ball to float from Mullan to Wallace.
The time stops when the ball reaches the 6th Street Bridge in Wallace, where local teenagers will dive into the cold water to retrieve the ball and a reward for retrieving it.
One hundred real silver dollars will be awarded for first prize. The winner of the will have the option to sell the silver dollars back for what their true worth. Several other cash prizes will be awarded for the next closest times.
The Gyro Club will also bring in a carnival to be set up in the streets of downtown Wallace. Free tickets have been provided to area school children to enjoy a night at the carnival.
This is the one event where there will be no private vendors will be allowed set up and selling to the public.
