Former Wallace Resident Battling Leukemia

When Ashley Lees was 15, the former Wallace resident was diagnosed with leukemia and went through close to three years of treatment before her cancer went into remission.

For the last two years, she has been living a normal life in Arizona without having to receive any additional treatment. After graduating from high school, Ashley has been getting on with her life.

Now 20 years old, her leukemia has returned. She is back in Phoenix Children's Hospital and will undergo a stronger form of chemotherapy starting this week. She will also have to spend a great deal of time hospitalized due to the type of treatment she will undergo.

Ashley is the daughter of Lori (Koening) and Dave Carauthers of Apache Junction, Ariz. Her father, Stacy Lees, lives in Wichita, Kan. All are formerly of Wallace. She is also the granddaughter of Glenda (Koening) and Sonny Wager of Osburn and the late Mike Koening, Vic and Laretta Lees, all of Wallace.

If any friends of Ashley would like to send her a get well wish, her address is: Ashley Lees, c/o Phoenix Children's Hospital, 1919 E Thomas, Phoenix, AZ 85016-7710.
