From the derring-do of bareback riding to steer wrestling, team roping to barrel racing at breakneck speeds, the Kootenai River Rodeo - which has dazzled and delighted Boundary County for years - is back for another roundup.
Sponsored by the Selkirk Saddle Club which has been in existence since 1965, this year's rodeo set for June 27 and 28 at the Boundary County Fairgrounds will feature Professional Bull Rider bulls that have been nationally televised on the PBR circuit.
Following a parade down Main Street at noon on Saturday, the rodeo - packed with local participants like Casey Wyatt, Andy and Matt Rice, Mallory Brown and Lacie Langford - gets under way at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
There will be free parking at the Fairgrounds, along with a beer garden and concessions stands.
"If it wasn't for the support of the community, we wouldn't be able to put on a rodeo in Boundary County," said Selkirk Saddle Club treasurer Rene Riddle. "The costs for insurance and getting quality stock for the event have risen. It takes about $14,000 to put on a rodeo”.
Featured events at the Kootenai River Rodeo are bareback riding/saddle bronc; calf roping and breakaway roping; steer wrestling and bull riding; team roping; PWRA and local barrel racing; bull riding and All Around Cowboy.
Don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes — there will be a family dance on Saturday night at the Fairgrounds after the rodeo.
