A former Bonners Ferry High School graduate whose father served as Boundary County Sheriff's deputy has become the second female patrol officer at the Bonners Ferry Police Department.
A 2001 graduate of Boise State University with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice, Tiffany Murray was sworn in at the Sept. 2 Bonners Ferry City Council meeting. Earlier this year, Jeannette Woodard became the first female patrol officer ever hired by BFPD.
For Murray, returning to Bonners Ferry where she was raised since she was four years old is almost like the 1980s TV sitcom, 'Welcome Back, Kotter.'
Murray's roots in the Bonners Ferry community run deep. The daughter of Ron and Diana McLaughlin, Murray graduated from BFHS in 1996. Her father worked for the U.S. Border Patrol before working for the Boundary County Sheriff's Office as a Sheriff's deputy.
"Everyone seems to remember me and my parents," said Murray, who is married to Kevin Murray, who is Boundary County Sheriff's deputy. Previously, he was a Sheriff's deputy for the Ada County Sheriff's Department.
A five-year law enforcement veteran, Murray began her career in 2002 as a detention officer with the Ada County Sheriff's Department before leaving as a patrol officer in 2006. In 2007, she worked for Nampa Police Department in the records department, as a patrol officer and as a community service officer.
"I missed my hometown a lot," said Murray. "What I love about Bonners is that it never really changed a lot since I've been gone. It's like I never left."
