When it comes to ripping across a motocross track, Bonners Ferry's Rick Philbrook will tell you that there aren't many who can roar through a big-time raceway like Tim Fulton.
The 49-year-old Boundary County general contractor who owns Fulton Quality Construction showed his stuff when he took first place in the "Vet" class at the Niarada MX Raceway, 50 miles south of Kalispell, Mont. Sept. 29, in the MDK Motorsports WestMont Fall Series, now in its the sixth season.
In March, the raceway was notified that it received $62,850 from Kawasaki Team Green in contingency money for its spring and fall series.
Fulton, who has been motocross racing since he was a student at Bonners Ferry High School 30 years ago, beat out a field of 17 at the Niarada Raceway to take top honors at the western Montana motocross series. More than 200 motocross racers competed in several skill-level categories at the raceway owned and operated by renown motocross racer Mike Brubaker, who raced competitively for 30 years.
"Tom has always been very competitive and a good guy to race against," said Philbrook, who grew up racing motocross bikes with Fulton. "Every now and then I would beat him, but it wasn't that often. We called him the G.O.A.T., the Greatest of All Time."
Fulton placed second in the first motocross race at the Niarada Raceway and first in the second moto for an overall score of 3 points to take top honors in his class.
"He definitely was pretty thrilled about it," said Philbrook. "Hopefully, he'll go back in three weeks to defend his title. He's an awesome guy who can still compete on a motocross track. He's as good as they get."
