Several North Idaho College theater department staff members recently received prestigious national awards from the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival for the production of "The Doctor In Spite of Himself" this winter.
Former student Jamie Murphy, who studied graphic design/fine arts and theater while attending NIC, received a Meritorious Achievement Award for scenic design of the production. The Coeur d'Alene native does most of the scenic painting for the NIC Theater Department as well as Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre.
NIC Theater Director Joe Jacoby earned a Meritorious Achievement Award for his direction of the play.
NIC Theater Department make-up instructor Patrick Treadway received a Meritorious Achievement Award for production make-up.
Through the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, theater departments and student artists showcase their work and receive outside assessment by Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival respondents.
A respondent was invited by NIC's Theater Department to attend the winter play at NIC. The respondent can then elect to recognize outstanding work by staff members and nonstudents with certificates of merit.
"I'm very proud of the accomplishments of those who worked on this production," Jacoby said.
