Rendezvous Days April 24-26, 2009

Spring is in the air and we're excited to get out there and do something fun! That's where Rendezvous Days in Eureka Montana comes in. This year it starts off Friday with the David Thompson Black Powder shoot at noon, followed with a sock-hop dinner and dance at the high school that night. On Saturday, there's breakfast at several places in town, the Black Power shoot, Village vendors, games, music and food and out at the Fairgrounds the Quilt show, Flea Market & Crafts show. At noon, there's a parade, then a car show in the park, sand drags in the afternoon and more. Saturday night is the exciting Roughstock rodeo at the Lake Koocanusa Arena followed by the "largest barn dance in Montana", featuring the Cooper Mountain Band; and breakfast is available after the dance. There is a lot going on Sunday as well, Family fun for everyone!

After experiencing the Eureka Rendezvous Day events for three years now, I thought it would be great to become "sister cities". This last week the Eureka Chamber of Commerce Representative Randy MacIntyre came over and we met with Mike Sloan at City Hall, and I took him around to meet with a few other local business folks in town too. My goal is to get more information about fun things that are going on in our region, and by becoming sister cities we will share upcoming events in both of our communities; knowing about them early it allows us to experience more.

This reminds me of what I've heard about the former Kootenai River Days in Bonners Ferry, and how much family fun everyone has. People still talk about how much they looked forward to it each year. Maybe it can get started again. We are surrounded by so much talent; arts, music, crafts, rodeo, logging show events, the Rod Benders Car Show, Pow Wow, etc. This list could go on and on. We are blessed to live in an area that is rich in talent. We just need some kind of format, and the volunteers to help coordinate and facilitate it. This could be one of the signature events in Bonners Ferry that will bring visitors in and boost our local economy.
