Crapo's office now accepting Academy applications
Jan 13, 2005, 09:54
Idaho Senator, Mike Crapo’s office, is now accepting student applications to attend one of the nation’s four military academies.
Every year, Crapo nominates selected Idaho students to the following: the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado; the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York; the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York; and the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland. Interested students need to submit an application and references and meet certain scholastic requirements for consideration in the next academic year. The individual academies will make the final admission selections.
“It is never too early for high school students to begin to explore their higher education options,” Crapo said. “The four military academies maintain some of the highest academic standards and programs in the country, and the learning environment and opportunities are unparalleled. I would strongly encourage Idaho students who have an interest in attending one of these academies to begin the application process now. Each year, we have several Idaho students who are accepted to the academies and their educational experience is one of the finest available today.”
Students may apply to both United States Senators and the U.S. Representative from their congressional district as well as the Vice President of the United States.
Crapo will forward the names of the students he nominates to each service academy, where the individual institutions will make the final appointments. Students applying for a nomination into the 2006 class should contact Crapo’s military representative, Linda Norris at 202-224-0851 for more information. There is an Oct. 31 deadline for all applications.
