Service Above Self and Cooperation is a win win for the Food Bank and the community.

Members of the Rotary Club of Bonners Ferry, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game and a local land owner teamed up to provide fresh Turkey for the Boundary County Food Bank.

This time of year the Turkeys attack the crab apple trees in the tree farms. Their weight on the young frozen branches snaps them and damages them for re-sale. Up until now it has been difficult to get people to harvest them knowing they have to donate the meat to the food bank.

The Rotary members decided to take on the expense of shells, bags and the time on their own. It is what “Service above Self”, our Rotary Motto, is all about!

The turkey breast is ground and frozen. It works great for turkey burgers, turkey meatloaf, etc. The legs and thighs are quartered, frozen and ready for the crock pot. Served up with mashed potatoes and gravy, it’s like thanks giving all over again!
